| | One who knows Ignore | Kiki - 2/month with the girlfriend is actually pretty good. I wouldn't upgrade though, as the spouse plan actually can go as low as 1/month or bi-monthly, and it end s being a hell of a lot more expensive.

| | TacoBill Ignore | All I watch on TV is sports and terrible movies, we should probably pay less than we do. But whatever. Its 5 people splitting it, so it pays for itself if I watch like 5 hours of TV a month.

 | Bane Slader™ Ignore | Here the other thing that I love about Dish Network over DirectTV is that I have 2 boxes that feed 4 tvs. You dont need a box for every tv. Heck I only have 3 tvs in the house so I ran one out to the garage so I canhave the guys over to watch sports and drink some beers with out my wife yelling at us. We tend to drink alot and get really loud at the games. WIN WIN bro.

 | Dredlox™ Ignore | I saw Comedy was pulling Colbert and Daily Show off Hulu, but it was all amicable. They really only did it so they can play them on their own site, if you read into what's happening.
So you can still watch them, Comedy just wants the draw for themselves!

| | CategoryOneGame Ignore | Neal Hulu and many other TV shows are starting to pull programing. Comedy Network is starting to pull their shows from Hulu and if other networks and shows join them, that would kill it. I think more and more shows are going to make you pay to watch shows as ad revenue just isn't enough.
09:39 03-04-2010 |
 | Dredlox™ Ignore | Can't most new tvs have a PC plug into them? Cable is just so EXPENSIVE. let's take it at $40 a month... you are talking 1 grand in two years.

 | Shadow 13™ Ignore | i have cable for tv and internets and a dvr on the tv, and it's just more convenient to watch tv shows on the couch in front of a tv than on the computer monitor. and the dvr makes it basically the same thing, i record all the shows i wanna watch so i don't have to worry about what time they're on, it's like tv's on my schedule instead of the other way around. works out awesome.

| | CategoryOneGame Ignore | I also like it so I have local college sports that do not broadcast on any other channel except for Direct TV, no net, no ESPN except a game or two a year and there are not many sports bars in Utah and those that are here are in Downtown SLC, not near me, and again with kids, it's not easy to just ditch them at home to go watch a game, either paying a babysitter or getting a grandparent either takes their time or costs money.
I also Ref so I can get home and watch all my 'shows' - Lost and so forth, without commercials and at my own time.
Also I don't go to the theater because of kids and money and so Netflix has been amazing for us, I highly recommend Netflix.

| | CategoryOneGame Ignore | Neal my son is very bright for a 3 year old. He does not want to watch the same thing over and over. His taste changes about every two weeks with what he is interested in. DVD's would get very pricey. He is also stubborn and will not watch something he does not want to watch. He doesn't like Disney shows, he wants more educational cartoons. He learned sign language before he could talk from a TV show here called 'Signing Time'.
When we go on a trip a mini DVD player works but not here at home for him.
Take someone like my niece though and she will watch the same Disney princess movie over and over and over, She has watched one show 3 times in a row. For a kid like like that not having cable or channels works, my son it wouldn't.
Dish Network or Direct TV are the way to go. I've had both and I think I like Dish a little more but both are better than cable.
Both are cheaper, both have more HD channels, both have DVR's, just all around better.
00:12 03-04-2010 |
| | Patrick M. S Ignore | but mike what will you do with that time if you don't watch TV? It'll probably work out to something more expensive. The price of an entire month of TV is the same price as taking Dawn and your boy out to a movie twice.
23:48 03-03-2010 |
 | Dredlox™ Ignore | That's actually very interesting... Dish reported earnings, and I read the report, and they added a bunch of subscribers. Hmm. I may look at them more closely as an investment. That is a good deal.

 | Bane Slader™ Ignore | I had Comcast in this house since 1984 (I bought the house I grew up in from my parents) and until this last year. I was paying $70 for basic cable (about 77 channels that were crap). I switched over to Dish Network and I love it. I am paying $39 a month for HD DVR and over 250 channels. Even when the intro price goes I still will be paying $59. Cable sucks! I love the Dish man.

 | The Judge™ Ignore | Today and tonight was TV night, ironically. I watched an awesome show called Apocalypse: The 2nd World War on Smithsonian HD. Outstanding.
Then, I was going to go out and didn't feel like it so I start channel flipping and can't find diddily to watch at 6pm so I pop in a DVD and watch until my wife and son got home at 8pm and I start channel flipping because the movie I was watching was R and I find the hockey game which was boring as fock, then I go to that rag assed ESPN to try to get some....duh.....INFORMATION from their annoying scroll. It's hockey trade deadline today and what are they putting up there? Focking shyt about PRO FOOTBALL. OMG I wasn't going to wait for 10 minutes and then miss the trades because of a commercial so I go to ESPN News, 1 of 5 different ESPN's I have and NONE of them are talking hockey. Tiger Woods. Check. Baseball. Check. Football. Check. NBA. Check. Women's tennis. Check. Roller focking. Check. Turd Burglaring. Check. Hockey? None to be found on ESPN.
ESPN can eat the corn out of my crap.
Anyway, I flip to HBO and find Meet The Spartans and laugh a few times. Flip to Planet of the Apes and quickly get bored and here I am now on the computer actually GETTING Hockey trade info.
Note- HBO On Demand was really lame, I didn't see much of anything to watch.
I know what Patrick is saying about it being worth it as far as time goes but I don't know. $70 a month is a lot of money just to watch the boob tube. I like to think we get our dollars worth but there just isn't that much quality stuff on for me I guess.

 | Dredlox™ Ignore | Huh, I was actually thinking about families when I wrote this, since kids can get pretty darn expensive. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy 4 or 5 kids dvds and just run them over and over? Kids don't seem to mind watching the same stuff, they seem to like it.

| | CategoryOneGame Ignore | Neal you don't have kids. Without Dish, recording many kids shows to watch at any time, life would be horrible. New shows all the time on Nick for kids and PBS. 'Shows' make it worth it to pay $60 a month for HD Dish.
20:38 03-03-2010 |
 | Dredlox™ Ignore | I could definitely see if you really liked sports, cable being a good deal. Watching every game would be prohibitively expensive at a bar.
For the average person, you go to a bar and watch a game. Yeah, you spend $15, but you are getting food & drink value. Probably at least $5 worth.
I also think it's not bad when you have a situation like brad, like 3 roommates splitting it.

IDK, there's a lot of good stuff on TV. If we didn't have DVR we probably wouldn't bother with cable, though.

| | Patrick M. S Ignore | it's "gyp" you mispelling racist
For the people that complain about their TV bill, have you ever divided what is comes to per hour in terms of cost?
Mine costs me NOTHING practically. It's like if I thought MW2 was too expensive at 60$. I spent more than 200 hours on that game.
Consoles in particular are really good bang for your buck. I find TV in general to cost almost nothing when you price it out properly
14:56 03-03-2010 |
 | The Judge™ Ignore | Ours is like $70 a month with HD and DVR. It's really a friggin ripoff but what can you do?
I agree that I can go watch @ a sports bar or my strip club, just about every Lightning and Rays game is televised and I've pretty much boycotted pro football, for the most part.
I always find something to watch, the Military Channel is awesome, I like movies and rent anyway. lol
It's a jip but I'd really miss it.

| | Patrick M. S Ignore | i spent 150 a month but that includes phone and internets. I get tons of HD channels and sometimes I order girl-girl movies
I think cable is worth it for me cuz I like hockey and daily show.

| | Serpent Ignore | I just got a $40/month cable plan that has all my HD sports and a PVR.
I probably spend anywhere from $30-$40 any time I used to head to the bar to watch my canucks. Now I save money and I save time because i can skip commercials and periods.
