Find a Game
We are currently working on a way for members to register to
play a game with other members. In the mean time you can find
games by viewing the member list at Evan
Fitzgeralds LotR Apprentice site or by connecting to the
DALNet channel #lotrtcg, with an IRC client like mIRC.
Getting Started, Basic Gameplay by Evan Fitzgerald
Create Deck - under file - Deckmaker...a popup utility
will appear. Create a deck and hit save (the little disk
icon)
Either play solitaire or connect to opponent over the
Internet
Before drawing your hand you need to do the following
Go to the menu and select ACTION - CREATE A CARD
The title of the card is BID - in the power section
place your opening bid - and hit OK
When you see your opponent has completed making his
card both players should drag their cards onto the table.
Then go to menu VIEW - MY LIBRARY
While holding the shift key down - drag each of your
sites onto the table and off to the side (I would keep
them in some order). this will drag the cards upside
down on the table
Then drag frodo, the one ring, and your starting fellowship
Close your library and CTRL-S to shuffle
Draw 8 cards CTRL-D or click the draw button 8 times
Go to the menu and select ACTION - CREATE A CARD titled
TWILIGHT with nothing in power/toughness
Place that card on the table
Keep track of counters but right clicking on a card a
hitting D to add one or C to set the number on counters
Keep track of twilight by placing counters on the TWILIGHT
card. Have the opponent take control of card anytime they
need to play something - or just do it yourself.
FAQ
What happens if the game gets disconnected?
The system has a built in feature for reconnecting, but
its a little confusing. You will get some error like "Game
has been unintentionally discounted". You then need
to go to the Menu - select Communication - Disconnect.
This will give you a new button on the far right on the
Icon menu bar (for standard theme the stopwatch is replaced
with the lightbulb - for LOTR theme you will see a blue
button with "RE" in it). Push that button -
and reconnect. IF YOU EXIT OUT OF APPRENTICE OR CLICK
NEW GAME - You Are Screwed.
Why do the sites jump all around in the deck editor?
To be honest, I don't know? But here is why it is setup
that why - and what you can do about it. Pulling the sites
out of the deck at the start of the game is tons easier.
After opening the library - just hit "1" and
it jumps you to site 1, rinse and repeat and it even works
for "F" for frodo. Also, when making a deck
its much easier to find the sites if they are ordered
appropriately.
Now here is how to use the deck editor. Go to "1
- Bag End", then use arrow keys to move up and down.
You can right click to view the card without jumping.
AAfter viewing a card click back to the deck editor (BUT
NOT IN THE CARD WINDOW - just some 'dead space'). Continue
using the UP and DOWN arrows. To add a card use CTRL-A
and conitune with the UP and DOWN arrows. Hope this helps
What do I do if I forgot the order of my sites?
I would consider it poor play to peak at any of the facedown
cards on the table. The reason is that you cannot tell which
card you opponent is looking at. Therefore if you get your
sites messed up - it is your fault and therefore find your
next site by either dragging it into your hand and dragging
it back (while holding the shift key down) or just flip
it over so your opponent see too.
How do I use GOBLIN SNEAK/BREEDING PIT/GIMLI/MALLORN
TREES (placing cards beneath your draw deck)?
If you drag a card to your library (book symbol) with the
SHIFT key down...it goes to the bottom of your library.
You will see this text in the dialogue box
How do I use THE UNDERDEEPS OF MORIA?
There is no mechanic in Apprentice to show the bottom card
of your draw deck. However I would say this is the best
solution. If you have a totally random deck (i.e. haven't
stacked the bottom with SNEAK) your can show your opponent
your library and they will verify for you. Then you can
view your library and play the card. However if you are
going to play the combo - I would recommend that when you
play the SNEAK you create a pile of cards off to the side
that represent your "bottom of draw deck". If
at any time you are required to shuffle your deck - move
all of those cards into your library and shuffle them all
together.
